Post 65. Of Bodies and Souls.

( I dedicate this little, rambling, rapping Poem to both Believers and Unbelievers).

Of Human Bodies and Souls.

Last night my Angel Guardian came to chat to me in my sleep.

To me he said-: "" My waif, it's time.

To thee to tell I have some truths of human bodies, hearts, minds and souls.

.................................................................

When of opposite genders thou shall think of,

remember oh waif of mine, beloved of God,

that of the gender that is like your own the body thou must not seek to hold.
Their souls you may seek to hold with great love though,
as David did of Saul's son Jonathan the bold.
Of your opposite gender only,

the body you are allowed to seek to hold,

only if it is free and no other has a claim to it.

Remember further oh friend of God and mine

that humans are not allowed to claim both bodies and souls to hold

even of the opposite gender.

If body thy shall choose, the soul shall not be yours

if soul you choose on the other hand

it is not wise to claim the body too.
Trying both body and soul to mix and hold together with human love
is matter for drama and tragedy,
as even Cleopatra and poor Antony did show.
It is miscegenation.
If thou renounce the bodies
then all souls thou can hope to hold
if in accord with God's Laws,
without miscegenation or guilt for sin.
The renunciation is hard

but think about the freedom for Love
that it thus gives thee.

Even god-like thou shall feel and actually be free

from the constraints that Nature us plagues with.

The two, body and soul are in a struggle bound

that death alone shall unbind and free.

But, anyway, remember too

that while the body temporary is and vanity on earth

the soul eternally thou shalt benefit with.

The soul my friend who God seek

belongs to God eternally

and you are only allowed to borrow it

never can it belong to thee

as a possession

but only as a loan from God

Who is jealous, and rightly so, of it.

Body and soul are in a struggle bound

if thou remember what above I said.

There is a competition for the soul that to God belongs,

from God to borrow that Creation that imperfect is

has unwisely entered in,

since the Beginnings when God,

without origination or generation involved,

----as the case was for the Eternal Word----

made humans to exist in a Creation

that is of God but divine is not.

The struggle is between Nature and God

and is said by some wise moderns,

by Juan Luis Segundo led,

who was of Ignatius Loyola's faith,

to be caused by scarcity and necessity,
that results from a Creation,
that divine cannot be yet,
the ancients claiming an unlawful possession by humanity

of the Knowledge-Tree
the cause of struggle to be,
God still possessing the Life-Tree.
A consolation in all this being
that divinisation of the whole Creation

of the struggle the Purpose and Goal is.

There are further good news though

even in this scenario of Doom.

These are that Grace, Love and Hope

which are from the good Good,

can conquer all
but you should pray for these.

The struggle my friend who art in love with God

is worth it all!

God Who understands the scenario God made

which God did not ORIGINATE or GENERATE( Baraah),

but just MADE ( Asaah),

is still at work to facilitate

that all immortalised may be and divine be made

so that both glorified-bodies and souls

of all beloved, whom on earth we meet and love,

we shall be able mutually to hold in Eternity.

Remember though that then,

no gender shall divide the bodies from the souls

floating as these shall be

in of God's love the ethereal ocean

that infinite bliss shall give,

all bathing in God's light

that all mysteries shall reveal,

but more I am not allowed to tell Thee,
for the Life-Tree does
not yet belong to Thee.

Sleep well my waif, with God! ""

Post 64. An interpretation of Khalil Gibran's Poem

On Marriage.

An interpretation.

Since I have observed people to give different interpretations to this poem by Khalil Gibran, and upon this having been shown to me by a dear lady-blogger on Bigblog, in the occasion of my submision to her attention of my little rambling work “Of Bodies and Souls” (uploaded in the following Post)which reflects christian/Catholic theological and ethical sensibilities, moreover believing it concurs with some of the criteria in my work, I have decided, without claiming to be an expert of Gibran’s poetry, to attempt an Interpretation. Although not being an expert at poetry, I have done more than my share of readings in Italian Literature.First of all I do not think that the title-: “On Marriage” is applicable, as I believe the Poem to be about a great love experience between two human beings. Carnal union is not appearing at all in this Poem, and what is stressed is a correspondence between the two souls, what ancient italian poetry called “una corrispondenza di amorosi sensi”.

The only indication that the love may be between a man and a woman may be the use of the oak and cypress analogy in the metaphor at the last verse. Had the Souls of the two lovers been of persons of the same gender, Gibran should have used either "cypress" or "oak" for both according as to whether the two were respectively and both female or male. The latter case of two, non-carnally engaged male lovers could apply to a poem that sang the love David had for Saul's son, the tragic Jonatan.

"You" were born together.................

"You " refers to the love between the two souls which arises simultaneously in both lovers, like a love at first sight. "Soul", "love" and "heart" are one and the same thing in this Poem. The true love between two souls which endures eternally, is like a Friendship founded on character rather than on commonly described love which Aristotle distinguishes and defines in his chapters on Friendship in one of his works about Ethics, “Nichomachean Ethics”. He says of the one founded on love that it can be transitory as amply proved by our modern separations and divorces, while the one founded on character may endure forever.
Aristotle considered three types of Friendship-: Political ( any mercenary friendship based on utility and material/service exchange), from love (pleasure, mutual liking/physical attraction/mannerism), from character.
Gibran, although a Persian of indo-european origins, was a Moslem and since he obviously belonged to the learned circles of islamic scholars, one in which theology and philosophy were prerequisites for all types of higher learning, Gibran must have studied Aristotle who had been rediscovered by the Arabs in the course of their conquests since 650 A.D.
It is also obvious that Platonic influences were also strong in islamic learned circles, very much more so than Aristotle, who became, in a modified understanding contrasting the islamic/jewish one, the philosopher of the Catholic Scholastics, led by the Dominican, St. Thomas Aquina ( an italian/calabrian of noble german origins), called by his fellow parisian colleagues " the Sorbonne-ox ", owing to his humble, patient, unflippable, kind, slow, methodical, thorough, devastating reasoning and logic.
One had to wait for William of Oackam, Francis Bacon, and the dutch theologians/philosophers to have Aristotle's exhaggerated veneration to abate.
In Ethics though he still remains unsurpassed, as Situation Ethics ( although appropriate and true, if honestly applied, like when I say that there may sometime be a justification for a poke or even two) is a failure since human beings are naturally devoted to lying and false rationalisations,
to suit situations.

Since I have stressed the point that Gibran is talking about a love between Souls without necessarily implying----as we modern readers who are grossly biased in favour of carnal expressions of what we may call love, not always even of a straight type---- carnal unity that was then the prerogative of those who wished to procreate, or of those indulging in gross love-making, the above expressions from the Poem predicate a sharing rather than a mutual possession of one another ’s Souls.
Why so?
The answer is-:

Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping.

For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.................

This is what the Angel says in my Poem about God owning the Souls and that we are only allowed to borrow. these from God.
The hand of Life is simply The Creator (i.e., a maker uses one's own hands to make) of Life that can only be God the Father or God the Creator.
Heart is another word for Soul, its seat of affections and feelings.

For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts...........................

This is what the Angel said in my poem " Of Bodies and Souls"..

Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping............................................

Let there be a communication, a mutual borrowing, an amorous exchange, but do not attempt to absolutely own, posses one another, as we as Souls belong to God.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls............................

Here above again the motive of free, open, unbounded communication between independent Souls.

Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf,
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music........................

Here above again the motive of “ A mutual exchange of love while remaining individual Souls, love being like a music made by strings that remain separate while playing together in time ".

Italian Present Socio- Political Scenario.
Non voglio sembrare anti-italiano, ma io sono per la verita'. Con il genio e la capacita' materiale e pratica degli italiani che discendono dal meglio che i Romani trovarono utile importare nell'Impero ( no gli Italiani non sono di cultura romana, ma rappresentano il miscuglio geniale degli schiavi di Roma che presero eventualmentre il sopravvento). Pur essendo geniale sto miscuglioeterogeneo,non ha capacita' a autodisciplinarsi e a governarsi. Ben governati (da una buona Monarchia) come all'estero, ove come emigranti, gli Italiani progrediscono materialmente seppur ulteriormente imbastardendosi. Se l'Italia fosse ben governate, le masse sono esse pure colpevolissime, non esisterebbe il pozzo nero (la fogna) senza fondo del Meridione, e le Mafie che sono una delle vergogne dell'Italia verrebbero crocifisse. E'ora di finirla,includendo Beppe Grillo, commediante, di piagnucolare per il Meridione. Vi sono i Balcani che hanno piu' e vero bisogno del Meridione e non vedo perche'l'Italia se fosse ben governata da gente con il sangue in faccia, invece che da ex-caprai e pecorai,non dovesse essere all'altezza di aiutare altri in Europa. Come si spiega che Milano, che praticamente mantiene tutta l'Italia, deve accontentarsi con l'aereoporto della Malpensa nel quale un pilota rischia ogni atterraggio che deve compiere come se stesse pilotando un aereo da caccia e piombare quasi come un sasso verticalmente dato che questo aereoporto e' nel mezzo di un centro abitato? Senza parlare del Radar che e' antiquato se e quando funziona? Perche' un uomo d'affari che viene dall'Estero deve prima andare a Roma per poi andare a Milano? Persino i carrelli porta-bagagli della Malpensa mancano del freno che quelli del Leonardo possiedono. Ma cosa sono queste meschinita' effeminate, sabotaggi infantili ed insensati, queste cazzate nelle quali i maligni suddisti al Governo indulgono? Senza parlare dell'Indulto che per me e' ancora pratica e parola misteriosissima e me ne frego se e' romana e latina. Io parlo e scrivo in Italiano, la lingua di Dante che civilizzo' l'Italia Barbara fino al 1914. E' inutile e da fanfaroni ipocriti piagnucolare regolari confessioni pubbliche sui Media ( Inclusi i filmati. Ricordo un film che narra dell'assassinio dei gentiluomini Falcone e Borsellino e di un Sacerdote in un villaggio della Sicilia che tende a bonificare tutto e nel quale la Mafia risulta come la vittima. Ma come si fa' ad avere una mentalita' e "faccia di tolla" simile e pretendere di essere civili?)per poi mantenere tutto come e'. Non sabotate voi stessi, il vostro futuro e quello dei vostri figli cosi'come state facendo, a partire dall'Italia e l'unica vostra speranza che e' l'Unione Europea. Certo che occorrono dei sacrifizii, ma i Cinesi si sacrificano per il futuro, perche' non noi?Militarmente non ci si puo'aspettare che i Tedeschi e gli Inglesi soltanto difendano l'Europa. L'Europa puo' fare benissimo senza un peso morto come e' ora l'Italia e usarla, se decidesse di non difendersi ( non vi e' in generale spirito combattivo o di auto sacrificio ) come un campo per l'annientamento di un nemico che sia sbarcato sulle sue sponde. Potrei citare un Articolo sull'Espresso che pateticamente e vergognosamente svela la mentalita' dei Quadri di Comando delle Forze Armate Italiane. Una delle alternative considerate e' di chiedere al Vaticano di mettere tutte le forze italiane alla difesa della Chiesa esonerandole da un ingaggiamento, diciamo nei Balcani. Come delle Guardie Svizzere insomma.La Storia Militare dell'Italia dopo il 1914 si ripeterebbe? Ma chi puo' avere fiducia di un Italiano? Una emigrazione al contrario per l'amore della Reciprocita'. Come si spiega che gente del Nord non osa andare al Sud dove i locali controllano e vietano tutto ai non locali?
